What To Expect

University Health System is pleased work with your employer or your spouse’s employer to bring this very important service to the workplace.

The University Health System Healthy U Express is a mobile mammography vehicle that offers screenings by appointment at various locations in Bexar County. Each exam takes approximately 15 minutes, requiring very little time away from your busy day.

Your mammogram digital images are read by highly trained radiologists affiliated with UT Health San Antonio. We make your results available to you within 24 hours, and with your permission, pass them along to your physician.

It’s only 15 minutes, but it could do a lot for your health and for your peace of mind. Please wear a separate top and bottom and avoid using powder, lotion or perfume. Here’s what you can expect to happen on your visit to the University Health System Healthy U Express:

  1. When you arrive at the Healthy U Express you will be greeted by one of our staff that will review your basic personal information for identity purposes (home address, phone number, etc.).
  2. You will then proceed to a private changing room and then to the mammography suite.
  3. Our radiology technician will briefly talk to you about your health history and complete your exam. A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast tissue intended to look for any changes or abnormalities that may be present. During the exam, the breast is placed between two plates and a digital image is taken.
  4. Once the mammogram is finished, you will return to the private changing room.

Certified radiologists at University Health System – Breast Center at the Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC) will evaluate your results and our staff will contact you in a manner you prefer (i.e. email, phone or letter). Additionally, we will also mail your results to your primary care physician if you requested it. You will also receive your results via US mail.

If you require further evaluation, you may visit your personal doctor or we can refer you to a breast health specialist at University Health System. Follow-up appointments are typically made within 24 hours for a diagnostic screening or as quickly as insurance requirements allow. The mammogram fee will be billed to your insurance company, Medicaid or Medicare. Please bring your insurance card to your appointment for identity verification. If you are uninsured, University Health System has special programs available for women who meet the eligibility requirements. For more information please call 358-7020.
